TOR Armor® is a top-of-rail (TOR) friction modifier, specifically designed to provide a coefficient of friction between 0.3 and 0.4 at the wheel-rail interface. TOR Armor® reduces noise, wear, and lateral forces. High lateral forces can cause the support plates and screws to loosen, which can result in derailment by the lower rail.

During normal bearing, TOR Armor® acts as a lubricant, but when sliding occurs immediately it is converted to "positive friction", controlling the drag condition, causing the wheels to return to a movement of safe scroll. The result is substantial reduction of high frequency vibrations, corrugations and noise.

The positive friction generated by TOR Armor® reduces lateral drag, thus reducing lateral forces. Measurements performed with correct instrumentation showed a reduction of more than 50% (compared to dry rail) in the first composition after application of the product.

TOR Armor® does not contain solvents, latex or toxic materials. It dries quickly between wheel and rail due to frictional heat, but will not harden in tanks or applicator piping. It will not corrode tanks, pumps or other steel components. The distance to drag the product along the track from the applicator will depend on conditions such as bending radius, braking and inclination, but 5 km is obtained in the vast majority of cases. In some cases, reductions in lateral forces have been measured 9 km from the applicator. The long drag distance of the product often results in a reduction in the number of applicators needed.

TOR Armor® does not affect the composition's braking or traction.
